New work flow…friday afternoon prep session.
One of two ‘looser’ pieces I started this evening after an inspiring visit to the armory show. Leaving the base wood on these two & letting it show through a bit. Also not covering to the edge as in some of the other paintings. Part of my ‘let it go’ series.
Finally got some time to get back into this piece. Tonight I finished the midtones. Tomorrow; final details and done…
Base color layering complete…Now building in shapes, birds & lights up next.
All Acrylic on board, brush & knife work.
The Very Beginning of ‘New York Lights’…Base colors and layer work begins. I honestly had no idea where this was going to go except the colors I wanted to use at this stage…
Its been a while since i’ve updated…travel kept me from painting but opened my mind. Back in NYC and exploring new colors. these two panels will hang together as one piece…really loving the way gold & a dark evergreen work together. will be doing several more in this vein.

HERCULES & NESSUS
2012
Watercolor & India Ink
18’ x 24’
In Greek mythology, it is the shirt (chiton) daubed with the tainted blood of the centaur Nessus that Deianeira, Hercules’ wife, naïvely gave Hercules, burning him, and driving him to throw himself onto a funeral pyre.
Metaphorically, it represents “a source of misfortune from which there is no escape; a fatal present; anything that wounds the susceptibilities”or a “destructive or expiatory force or influence”
